Romance on Mars?
Romance on mars started as a conversation about a certain frustration. We live in a time where we know everything, or at least are able to know everything with the compulsive slight of hand to rush our dopamine levels through grabbing our phone. I spoke with the father of a friend of mine, and told him that I was so jealous of him, that he live in an ‘age’ (lol sounds so old) of wonder. I said ‘As a fashion designer, if you wanted to make a collection or garments inspired by BDSM or anything else sexual, you used to go to the sex-clubs, to see, to understand and to absorb this knowledge to be able to make great things. Nowadays, you just grab your phone and look on Pinterest and type “BDSM club inspiration 80s.’ To follow up I said ‘I recently saw a video where people “raw dogged” a vacation, which ment no phone and you had to ask people and be in contact to arrange things or to get to know about the country you’re visiting, isn’t that insane, that that is the norm? All the wonder is gone, there’s no more romance on earth anymore’ He understood my point of view, whereafter I said ‘Well at least there’s still Romance on Mars.’ He said, hey that sounds like a cool brand name, where I disagreed, ‘It can be a cool name for a collection’, I said, maybe not for a brand.
Later, obviously, it became the brand name. I was first looking for something different, something short and easy, like most brands have because it’s good for MaRKetIng. But with a thousand options visited this name rOm, or Romance on Mars just kept sticking. Because it perfectly captures, and aligns with my heart. “Romance on mars' symbolises a romantic notion of the future or an exploration of the unknown. It suggests that even in the most distant or unlikely places - such as Mars - there is potential for love, human connection, and beauty. ”
